My personal taste in art and graphic design has always leaned towards the abstract, surreal and off-beat. From some of my favorite sci-fi and fantasy artists like Boris Vallejo and Frank Frazetta, to modern day masters like Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali and Max Ernst, great art can create controversy while challenging conventional thinking. And no artist from the last century has done more to challenge the whole notion of what can be considered art like Andy Warhol. I have one of his quotes hanging over my desk and it pretty much sums up his whole philosophy that turned the art world on its head and inspired a whole generation of pop artists and graphic designers.
The Andy Warhol Museum
To promote the upcoming summer exhibitions at the Andy Warhol Museum in Pennsylvania, the ad agency MARC USA in true Warhol spirit, designed a series of posters which are sure to grab people’s attention. Combining classic summer themes with imagery most viewers would consider decidedly less appealing, the campaign should have the desired effect. Edgy and provocative, these prints are sure to appeal to fans of the work of Andy Warhol while creating a little buzz for the museum. Sounds like a win-win to me. Hot fun in the summertime indeed!
