Weken Toys and Weken Electronics is a 30,000 square foot megastore located in Ohsweken, Ontario offering the ultimate selection of electronics and new toy and toy liquidation items. Their mission is to provide the largest selection of toys, games and electronics in Ontario, at incredible tax-free savings. Their facility also includes Weken Eats, the conveniently located on-site cafe.
What they needed
Weken partnered with ZOO Media Group to develop their brand identity and to announce the grand opening of their megastore via an integrated marketing and media plan.
What we delivered
ZOO Media Group was tasked with rolling out a multi-faceted campaign in only six weeks, including over a million flyer inserts across various south western Ontario newspapers, billboard advertising and extensive radio promos leading up to the opening weekend, which included a live on-location radio broadcast. All marketing collateral was created by ZOO, which included design and copywriting services. ZOO Media Group managed all printing and media negotiations and purchases. ZOO also developed two interactive websites for each store – Weken Toys and Weken Electronics – in just under four weeks, which consisted of site architecture development, design, copywriting, html programming and search engine optimization. ZOO also initiated a mascot program and sourced the appropriate supplier and worked closely with them to come up with a look that complemented the store’s brand. The campaign also featured a number of promotional contests both online and in-store, which were used to build an email database for the launch of the ZOO designed Weken Toys & Electronics bi-weekly e-flyer. ZOO Media Group was also hired to look after writing and distributing press releases which received media coverage in 4 newspapers both in print and online including a story on the cover of the Hamilton Spectator and the owners were invited on CHCH TV’s morning show. A strong social networking element was also included via Weken’s popular Facebook web presence.
The success of Weken’s grand opening event surpassed all attendance and revenue targets and their ongoing success illustrates the power of an integrated and strategic marketing plan. E-flyer sign-ups continue to rise each month and interest and awareness concerning their tax-free superstore has never been stronger. Currently, ZOO is developing an extensive e-commerce site for their Weken Electronics gaming store.
