On January 22, 2009, London artists gathered at the Central branch of the London Public Library to learn about the Art of Marketing. Sponsored by the Art Council of Ontario, ZOO Media Group Partner and Marketing Director Sandra Dugas, gave a very informative presentation on marketing tactics for artists to market both their art and themselves. Topics of discussion included branding defined and the importance of branding, how to develop a strong brand, and integrated marketing strategies to ensure success.
Sandra mentioned – “I was really pleased with how enthusiastic the attendees were and how much positive feedback I received. In this economy, now more than ever, it is crucial for all industries and entrepreneurs to establish a strong brand identity and to use effective marketing tactics to promote their products and services.” When asked which was more important, marketing the art or marketing the artist, Sandra replied – “Both are inextricably linked and hence, equally as important. Especially in the art community, how an artist choses to represent their image, their branding and even their physical appeareance can have an impact on how the public perceives and accepts their art. Many successful artists have been able to create a great deal of buzz about their work via effective marketing strategies, which in turn resulted in greater awareness and demand for their art.”
